Another Season Down

This past Saturday the football team completed another season. We played Austin College in our season finale in Sherman, Texas and came way with a victory of 44-10. We played one of our best games all season, and allowed the seniors to finish their college and football careers on a good note. The win brought our record to 7-3 and and 3-2 in conference, good enough for second place. It was a successful season for us but not good enough for our standards. Everyone was hoping to win conference and advance to the National Playoffs. We came close and should have accomplished this goal, but this was not our year. We go into next season with a two game winning streak and something to build on. Offensively we will lose four key players, one lineman, one receiver, and two running backs. Defensively we will graduate quite a bit of starters, but we also do return a good number of players who either started or who have received a good amount of playing time. We have a good core of players returning, which will give us a good opportunity to get back on top and win the conference for the first time in two years.

End of Season Update

There are two games left in the season for the football team after losing two consecutive games. We lost to DePauw University 26-18, which eliminated us from the playoffs and the conference championship race. This past week we unfortunately lost to Azusa Pacific University 55-27, which is a scholarship team from California. We now are in the final two weeks of the season with one home game against Centre College, and the season finale against Austin College in Sherman, Texas. The loss to DePauw was especially disappointing. We did not play up to our potential, and some questionable penalties affected the team. If we beat Centre it will eliminate them from the Conference Championship and the playoffs. This game would be a little bit of a payback game for us because we lost to Centre last year, which eliminated us from the playoffs. We are Centre’s final game, so we are looking to end their season early. The final two games are important for us. If we win at least one game we will have a winning season. Winning both games will end our season on a good note, and will send us into the offseason and next year with something to build on.
